Bir Billing Tour Package from Delhi – 5 Nights / 6 Days
An Amazing Adventure by Six Delhi University Students
Introduction – The Dream of Flying
Every college student dreams of that one perfect trip — a break from the chaos of lectures, assignments, and exams. For us, six Delhi University students who shared not just a classroom but a bond of endless laughter, Bir Billing turned out to be that dream destination.
After endless Google searches for paragliding destinations in India, we came across the name Bir Billing, tucked away in the serene laps of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. What attracted us the most was its reputation as the Paragliding Capital of Asia. The more we read, the more we realized this was it — the place where we would unwind, fly, and create unforgettable memories together.
Day 1: The Journey Begins – Delhi to Bir Billing
Our journey began early in the morning from Delhi. Ramesh, the most organized among us, had taken charge of all arrangements. He booked a comfortable Innova car to make our 12-hour road trip smooth and enjoyable.
Our driver, Jacky, greeted us with a cheerful smile. From the very first moment, his friendly nature and sense of humor set the tone for our adventure. As we left behind the city lights of Delhi, the mood inside the car was filled with excitement, music, and chatter about what awaited us in the mountains.
Breakfast Halt – Murthal’s Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba
Just after sunrise, we made our first stop at Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba in Murthal, Haryana — a place that needs no introduction for travelers from Delhi. The aroma of freshly cooked parathas and butter immediately made our mouths water.
We ordered aloo parathas, paneer parathas, and the famous lassi served in tall steel glasses. The food was rich, flavorful, and absolutely divine — exactly what we needed to kickstart our trip. Jacky, our driver, insisted we also try their masala chai, and he wasn’t wrong — it was refreshing and energizing.
As we ate, we couldn’t stop laughing about how our last few weeks were buried in books and exams. The thought that we were finally free for the next six days was enough to make the butter taste even better!
On the Road – Laughter, Music & Mountains
The drive from Murthal toward Himachal was scenic and smooth. We played our favorite songs, sang along at the top of our lungs, and occasionally teased each other. Jacky’s playlist was surprisingly good — he had everything from old Bollywood hits to new travel songs.
By noon, we reached Karnal, then crossed Ambala and Kiratpur Sahib, where the roads started to climb gently. The air got cooler, and soon we were surrounded by green hills and pine trees. Every turn on the mountain road offered a new view — valleys, rivers, and distant snow peaks.
Lunch Stop – Haveli, Kurukshetra
For lunch, Jacky took us to Haveli, a famous restaurant on the highway near Kurukshetra. The place had a beautiful Punjabi village-style decor — clay walls, wooden furniture, and folk music playing softly in the background.
We ordered thali meals — dal makhani, butter chicken, tandoori rotis, and jeera rice. The food was rich and authentic. After hours of driving, that hearty meal and a cup of cardamom tea made everyone feel refreshed.
Evening Tea Stop – Pahalwan Tea Stall, Near Una
As the sun began to set, we reached Una, a small town on the way to Palampur. Jacky stopped at a local favorite — Pahalwan Tea Stall. This roadside gem was famous among regular travelers for its strong ginger tea and crispy pakoras.
The owner, a cheerful man named Mohan Lal, chatted with us about local stories, weather, and upcoming festivals. We sipped hot tea as the cold mountain breeze brushed our faces — it was one of those small yet unforgettable travel moments.
Reaching Bir – Night at the Campsite
By the time we reached Bir Billing, it was late evening. The twinkling lights of the small mountain town welcomed us. Atul, our paragliding pilot and host, was waiting at his campsite and cottage.
Atul’s place was beautiful — cozy wooden cottages surrounded by pine trees, fairy lights, and a bonfire area in the middle. After the long drive, the warm hospitality felt wonderful.
That night, we sat around the bonfire, enjoying local Himachali dinner — rajma chawal, siddu, and chutney made with pahadi herbs. The food was homemade and served with love. We played music, danced, and shared stories till late night, under a clear sky full of stars.
Day 2: Exploring Bir & Billing
The next morning began with the chirping of birds and a beautiful sunrise over the hills. After a light breakfast of aloo poori and tea, we decided to explore Bir.
We visited Bir Monastery, also known as Chokling Monastery, a serene Tibetan monastery with colorful prayer flags and a peaceful atmosphere. The monks welcomed visitors warmly, and the entire area had an aura of calm and positivity.
In the afternoon, we headed towards Billing, about 14 km uphill from Bir — the take-off site for paragliding. The road to Billing was surrounded by lush green forests, and every turn offered breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley below.
Dinner and Bonfire Fun
In the evening, we returned to our camp. Atul arranged another lovely dinner — Himachali Dham, a traditional feast featuring local delicacies. After dinner, we gathered around the bonfire again, singing and laughing. One of our friends played the guitar, and we sang our favorite college songs. The combination of mountains, music, and friendship was pure magic.
Day 3: The Paragliding Experience – Flying Over the Valley
This was the day we had all been waiting for — paragliding day! We woke up early, nervous yet excited. Atul briefed us about safety measures, the process, and what to expect during the flight.
As we reached Billing, the wind was perfect, and paragliders were already taking off one after another. Watching them soar through the sky filled us with anticipation. Soon, it was our turn.
One by one, we ran with our pilots and lifted off the ground. The feeling was indescribable — the moment your feet leave the earth; it’s just you and the wind. The valley stretched far below, dotted with green fields and tiny houses. The snow-capped peaks in the distance completed the picture.
We screamed, laughed, and even clicked selfies mid-air. The flight lasted around 25–30 minutes, but those minutes felt timeless. Landing in Bir, we were greeted by locals cheering for the fliers. Every one of us had the same wide smile — it was a shared dream come true.
Evening Walk & Cafe Hopping
After the adrenaline rush, we spent the evening exploring the local cafes. Bir has many cozy places like June 16 Cafe, Glider’s Inn, and Garden tried pancakes, momos, and coffee while discussing our flying experiences.
That night, we slept peacefully — tired yet content, with memories of flying still fresh in our minds.
Day 4: Exploring Local Life – Tea Gardens & Palampur Visit
The next day, we decided to explore nearby Palampur, famous for its tea gardens and scenic landscapes. The drive from Bir to Palampur was around 30 km and extremely beautiful, with views of the Dhauladhar mountain range.
We visited Norling Tea Estate, where we saw how tea is plucked and processed. The aroma of fresh tea leaves filled the air. The guide offered us samples of green tea and masala tea — both delicious.
For lunch, we stopped at a local restaurant serving thukpa and momos, authentic Tibetan-style dishes. Later, we explored Baijnath Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in Himachal. Its architecture and peaceful surroundings were mesmerizing.
In the evening, we returned to our campsite, where Atul’s mother had prepared siddu, a local steamed bread stuffed with nuts and jaggery — simple yet comforting.
Day 5: Leisure, Nature Walk & Local Shopping
On our fifth day, we decided to keep things light. Some of us went for a short nature walk around the village, clicking photos and talking to locals. We even visited a small handicraft shop where local women sold handmade woolen caps and shawls — perfect souvenirs from the trip.
We spent the afternoon relaxing at the camp, reading, and chatting over tea. Later, Atul shared stories of paragliders who visit from all over the world. Listening to him made us realize how special Bir is — not just for adventure, but for the sense of peace it offers.
That night, being our last, was emotional. We lit our final bonfire, played soft music, and reminisced about the journey — from laughter on the road to flying over the mountains. The stars above seemed to listen quietly.
Day 6: Return Journey to Delhi
The next morning, we packed our bags and said goodbye to Atul and his family. They had treated us like their own. With hugs and promises to return, we began our journey back to Delhi.
On the way, we again stopped at Haveli for lunch and Pahalwan Tea Stall for tea. This time, the conversations were quieter — we were tired, but our hearts were full.
As we reached Delhi by late evening, the city lights welcomed us back to reality. But deep inside, we knew something had changed — we had left a piece of our hearts in the mountains.
