About the Tungnath Tour
Tungnath is one of the five Panch Kedar temples and is widely recognised as one of the world's highest Shiva temples. Set above the meadows and forests of Chopta in Rudraprayag district, the shrine is reached on foot along a clearly defined mountain trail.
The trek continues beyond Tungnath to Chandrashila, a summit known for broad views across the Garhwal Himalayas when the weather is clear. The route is relatively short, but the altitude, gradient, cold and changing weather make it more demanding than an ordinary walk.
This 6-night/7-day programme provides time for acclimatisation, the main trek and additional experiences at Deoria Tal, Ukhimath, Rudraprayag, Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Temple darshan is seasonal
Tungnath Temple closes during the winter period. A winter visit may be offered as a snow trek only when the route, weather and local authorities permit; it must not be advertised as guaranteed Tungnath Temple darshan. Confirm the current opening status before booking.

7-Day Tungnath Tour Itinerary
Driving and trekking times are approximate. Weather, road works, traffic, snow and local restrictions may require a change in the programme.
Day 01
Delhi to Haridwar
Meet the driver in Delhi and begin the journey to Haridwar. Check in at the hotel and rest. In the evening, visit Har Ki Pauri for Ganga Aarti, subject to arrival time, local traffic and crowd-control arrangements.
Night stay: Haridwar
Day 02
Haridwar to Chopta or Dugalbitta
Depart after breakfast and follow the mountain road through Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar and Rudraprayag towards Ukhimath and Chopta. Short photography or confluence stops may be made when daylight, traffic and safe parking permit.
Check in at the confirmed camp, guesthouse or hotel near Chopta or Dugalbitta. A bonfire is available only when permitted by the property, weather, forest-fire rules and local authorities.

Day 03
Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Trek
Begin early after breakfast. The established trail from Chopta to Tungnath is approximately 3 km. Visit the temple when it is officially open, then assess the weather and fitness of the group before continuing approximately 1.5 km further to Chandrashila.
Spend a short time at the summit when conditions are safe, then descend by the same route. In snow, fog, rain, thunder or high winds, the guide may shorten or cancel the summit section.
Night stay: Chopta, Dugalbitta or nearby
Day 04
Chopta to Deoria Tal, Ukhimath and Rudraprayag
Travel to Sari village and begin the approximately 2 km uphill walk to Deoria Tal. Enjoy the forest and lake setting, then return along the same trail.
Continue towards Ukhimath. Visit Omkareshwar Temple when open and when the day's timing permits, then proceed to Rudraprayag. Check in and visit the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini if there is sufficient daylight.
Guests who do not wish to undertake a second trek may skip Deoria Tal and travel directly through Ukhimath.

Day 05
Rudraprayag to Rishikesh
Drive towards Rishikesh through Srinagar and Devprayag. Optional temple or confluence stops are subject to operating hours, safe access and the day's road conditions.
After arrival in Rishikesh, visit selected riverfront areas or ashrams according to available time. Attend Ganga Aarti at an operating ghat. Bridge access and walking routes may change because of local construction or restrictions.

Day 06
Rishikesh to Delhi
After breakfast, depart for Delhi. Check in at the hotel after arrival. The evening is free for rest, shopping or independent sightseeing according to personal preference.

Day 07
Delhi Departure
Check out after breakfast. Transfer to Delhi Airport or the railway station when the departure transfer is included in the confirmed quotation. The tour ends with memories of Tungnath, Chandrashila and the Garhwal Himalayas.
Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek Details
Chopta to Tungnath
Approximately 3 km uphill on a defined trail. The gradient and altitude require a steady pace and suitable footwear.
Tungnath to Chandrashila
Approximately 1.5 km further uphill. This exposed section may be skipped when snow, fog, rain, wind or fitness creates a safety concern.
Total Trek
Approximately 9 km return when both Tungnath and Chandrashila are completed. Allow additional time for rest, darshan and changing weather.
Best Time for the Tungnath Tour
April to June
Spring and early summer can offer pleasant trekking conditions. Temple opening must be verified for the selected date.
July to August
Monsoon rain can create slippery trails, landslides and road delays. Travel only after checking official advisories.
September to October
Often preferred for clearer post-monsoon views and active temple-season journeys, subject to the annual closing schedule.
Winter
The temple is closed and snow may cover the route. Winter trekking requires an experienced guide, suitable equipment and favourable official conditions.
